  • Prepare treatment plans for patients who might require hospital inpatient care or referral to emergency departments, intensive care units, or critical care units.
  • Assess the diagnosis and treatment of patients who could present with any number of conditions, including maternity, psychological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory or neurological.
  • Incorporate emergency plans into practice, including written protocols and necessary equipment/tools for treatment.

Urologic Emergencies

Learning Objectives

1. Evaluate the several different causes of acute pelvic pain and identify the presence of life-threatening conditions.

2. Determine the most efficient lab/imaging tests for diagnosis.

3. Differentiate the most common signs and symptoms of urologic emergencies to provide treatment, including. neoplastic disease, prostatitis, priapism, hematuria and urinary retention.

New Drugs of Abuse

Learning Objectives

1. Assess recent trends in substance abuse and estimate the prevalence in your community and/or practice setting.

2. Formulate strategies to educate patients about the safe use of prescriptions in order to prevent non-medical use of such medications.

3. Describe new or trending products used for illegal purposes that may become (or currently serve as) substances of abuse.
